A six-year-old girl was found dead Saturday morning after going missing from her home at Poplar River First Nation.

Manitoba RCMP received a report just before 6 a.m. that the child had disappeared after her father woke to find the front door wide open and his daughter nowhere inside the residence.

Officers, the local fire department, family, community members and search and rescue volunteers launched an immediate search. Community boats were deployed on the water, and the band used a drone to assist in the effort.
