Winnipeg police have charged a teen after an early-morning fire destroyed the bus used by the visiting Kane County Cougars baseball team.
Emergency crews were called to the surface parking lot just outside of Blue Cross Park at around 1:50 a.m. Thursday to find the coach fully engulfed in flames.
Police say the team’s bus and its contents were destroyed in the blaze.
“A bystander nearby observed someone inside the bus and assisted in removing them,” police said in a release.
Officers arrived to take two teens into custody, while firefighters extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.
A 15-year-old girl is facing charges of arson causing damage to property and possession of incendiary material.
She was released on an undertaking.
The Cougars wrapped up a three-game series with the Goldeyes on Thursday afternoon. They are scheduled to depart Winnipeg on another bus provided by a local company.
