Ryan Sneath has been appointed as the City of Winnipeg’s new fire and paramedic chief.

Sneath has served as deputy chief of paramedic operations and training with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service since 2021. He also served as the department’s culture lead.

Earlier in his career with WFPS, Sneath served as assistant chief of paramedic operations, leading day-to-day emergency medical services operations and supporting the ongoing development of paramedic services.

“At a demanding time for emergency services, I know he will keep supporting frontline staff, strengthening workplace culture, and making sure Winnipeggers continue to receive excellent care when they need it most,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham, in a release.

Sneath, who begins in his new role on July 6, takes over from Christian Schmidt, who will soon retire from the WFPS.
