Two women are facing charges after two other women were seriously injured in a baseball bat assault at a West End residence on July 1.

Winnipeg police responded to the 1100 block of Sherburn Street at approximately 4:20 p.m. after receiving a report of two injured women inside.

Officers attended and found a 25-year-old woman and a 32-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries. They provided first aid until Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews arrived. Both victims were transported to hospital in critical condition and have since been upgraded to critical but stable condition.

Police say the two victims were at the home with a 26-year-old woman and a 30-year-old woman, both known to them. An argument broke out and escalated to the point where the victims were allegedly assaulted with a baseball bat.

Following the assault, one of the suspects allegedly photographed the injured victims and sent the images to other people, police say.

One of the victims was able to provide officers with information identifying the two suspects. Both were located and taken into custody a short time later. Officers also seized a baseball bat from the residence.

Miranda Crow, 26, and Chantel Margaret Owen, 30, have been charged with multiple offences. They remain in custody.
