Manitoba Public Insurance is winding down its hail response centre at the Main Street service centre in Winnipeg after managing the largest claims event in its history.
The public auto insurer said Wednesday more than 34,000 claims were opened since early June’s weather event.
Over the past month, MPI opened dedicated hail response centres at its Gateway and Main Street service centres in Winnipeg to handle the surge in claims. Following severe weather in the Westman region in early July, MPI also deployed additional mobile estimating services, including a dedicated hail trailer, to support customers in Boissevain and Killarney.
As a result, thousands of customers are now moving forward with vehicle repairs following the storms, MPI said.
The last day of operations for the Main Street response centre will be July 31. All appointments booked before that date will proceed as scheduled.
After August 1, the Main Street service centre will return to offering regular estimating appointments, while initial hail assessments will continue to be available in Winnipeg at the Gateway service centre.
