A 36-year-old man is facing charges after Winnipeg police seized more than 60 boxes of contraband tobacco from a Sherbrook Street residence.
Officers were investigating an unrelated matter in the 600 block of Sherbrook Street on Tuesday afternoon when they spotted a large quantity of illegal tobacco products at the address.
While officers secured the suite pending a search warrant, the suspect returned to the home and was arrested without incident.
Officers searched the residence early Wednesday morning, seizing nearly 3,000 cartons of cigarettes, for an estimated total of 600,000 individual cigarettes, along with $1,500 in Canadian currency.
The man is accused of possessing property obtained by crime valued under $5,000 and trafficking in contraband tobacco.
He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
