The St. Vital Park duck pond will see a $3.4-million revitalization through funding committed by both the city and federal government.
Work will include dredging the pond, naturalizing the basin and improving pathway connections to the area.
“St. Vital Park is one of Winnipeg’s most cherished green spaces,” said Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham, during an announcement on Friday. “This investment will revitalize the duck pond and improve the visitor experience.”
The city says the pond’s algae and weed problems have become very visible and are in need of renewal.
Design work is already underway, with the project moving to construction in 2027.
The park is also getting a $1.2-million road paving upgrade this year, building on $1.2 million in paving work completed in 2021.
