A routine speed check on the Trans-Canada Highway led Manitoba RCMP to nearly $1 million in cash and two arrests.
An officer was patrolling westbound on Highway 1 the evening of July 31 when radar recorded an eastbound vehicle travelling 129 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
The vehicle was stopped as it reached Brandon, and the investigation that followed led to a search of the vehicle. Police located multiple bags containing a large amount of Canadian currency, estimated at approximately $970,000.
The driver and passenger were arrested and taken to the Minnedosa RCMP detachment.
Alireza Haghood, 22, of Toronto, and Ahmad Ahmadi, 44, of Stouffville, Ont., are each charged with possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking over $5,000.
Ahmadi was released to appear in court at a later date, while Haghood remains in custody in Brandon.
Manitoba RCMP continue to investigate.
