A security guard is recovering after being stabbed during a robbery at a retail store in the 2700 block of Portage Avenue.

Winnipeg police say the incident happened Tuesday afternoon, sending a 22-year-old man to hospital with a serious upper-body injury.

Police say the suspect had entered the store and was confronted by the guard over suspected shoplifting. When told to leave, the suspect took out a sharp-edged weapon, stabbed the guard, and fled with stolen merchandise before officers arrived.
