(CITY OF WINNIPEG / FILE)
Two south Winnipeg thoroughfares are getting facelifts over the coming weeks, bringing lane reductions and closures for drivers to navigate.
The first will begin Saturday at the Dakota Street, Dunkirk Drive, and St. Mary’s Road intersection.
From 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 19:
- No through traffic on Dakota-Dunkirk across St. Mary’s Road
- Vehicles travelling east on Dunkirk Drive will need to turn right onto southbound St. Mary’s Road
- Vehicles travelling west on Dakota Street must turn right onto northbound St. Mary’s Road
- No left turns from southbound St. Mary’s Road onto eastbound Dakota Street
- No left turns from northbound St. Mary’s Road onto westbound Dunkirk Drive
- Existing single lane closures on southbound St. Mary’s Road will remain in place.
Winnipeg Transit will be rerouted during the Saturday closure.
Abinojii Mikanah resurfacing
From September 21 at 7 a.m. to October 9 at 6 p.m., crews will resurface the intersection of Abinojii Mikanah (formerly Bishop Grandin Boulevard) and River Road. Abinojii Mikanah will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Pembina Highway and St. Mary’s Road, with the sidewalk on the south side closed and no left turns permitted onto River Road. There will also be shorter-term closures of the eastbound right turn onto River Road.
River Road will be closed in both directions at the Abinojii Mikanah intersection during that time, with traffic in both directions required to turn right and no left turns permitted. The sidewalk on the east side of River Road will also be closed.
The city is advising drivers to plan ahead, use alternate routes, and expect delays.
