BRANDON, Man. – A retired non-commissioned officer at Canadian Forces Base Shilo in Manitoba has been acquitted of charges of sexual assault and disgraceful conduct.

Commander Martin Pelletier ruled today that former warrant officer Jason Buenacruz was not guilty of sexual assault, disgraceful conduct, obtaining sexual services for consideration, disgraceful conduct in connection with the sexual services charge, and conduct to the prejudice of good order and discipline.

Accused Says He Didn’t Intend to Shoot Manitoba RCMP Officer During Standoff

BRANDON, Man. – Closing arguments have wrapped up at the trial of a man accused of shooting a Manitoba RCMP officer during a police standoff.

The defence argues 52-year-old Clayton Ewert just wanted to scare the officer and didn’t intend to shoot Sgt. Mark Hume during the standoff west of Brandon in 2015 that stemmed from a domestic incident.

Historic Coronation Bell Returns to Brandon Fire Hall

The historic Coronation Bell that was originally donated to the Brandon Fire Department in 1902 is now back on display.

The bell was named in honour of the coronation of King Edward and hung in the bell towers of Brandon’s two historic fire halls located at 7th Street and Princess Avenue. It was removed in 1971 in order to reduce structural stress on the bell tower.

Litter Rates Decrease as More Manitobans Recycling Beverage Containers

Recycle EverywhereWINNIPEG — Litter rates for empty beverage containers are decreasing across Manitoba as more people toss them into the recycle bin instead of the landfill.

New numbers from the Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association (CBCRA) and its Recycle Everywhere program show both Winnipeg and Brandon deceased their litter rates by 74 and 87 percent, respectively, in 2017.

Brandon’s Keystone Centre has made three of its arenas more accessible for people with a mobility impairment.

New ramps and risers have been installed in the Kinsmen and Enns Brothers Arenas as well as the Westoba Ag Centre Show Ring.
