Queen Gets a Second Chance

May 29, 2009 7:01 AM | Sports

Queen Tina - Assiniboia DownsLast year’s Manitoba-bred Horse of the Year had a shaky start this week down at the track. Finishing sixth in her first race of the year, Queen Tina will try to make amends Saturday night when she takes on seven in an open company allowance feature at Assiniboia Downs.

However, there will definitely be some competition from horses who beat her last time, including At First Glance, Little Miami and Bearslittlewhisper.

Winner of three in 2008, including the RC Anderson and Distaff, Queen Tina, trained by Becky Welch, will have to take on open company most of the year before she gets a chance to defend her Distaff win against Manitoba-breds.  But that is familiar ground for this filly, having run against Miss Missile in the Chantilly and Assiniboia Oaks last year.

Saturday’s post time is 7 p.m.
