Manitoba Merv Sees His Shadow, Predicts Longer Winter

Don’t get ready to put away those shovels just yet, we’ve got six more weeks of winter to deal with.

Manitoba Merv peaked out of his hole Wednesday morning and looked around briefly. After spotting his own shadow, he retreated back to his warm den.

The groundhog made his annual prediction at Oak Hammock Marsh just north of Winnipeg.

The prediction aligns with what forecasters have been telling us about for weeks — expect a longer winter on the Prairies this year thanks to La Niña.
