Jazz Winnipeg will present the sixth annual Nu Sounds series beginning this Sunday, made up of the best Manitoba jazz musicians.

The series will open Sunday at the Park Theatre with pianist Bert Johnson. Johnson’s new project highlights the poetry of Winnipeg’s T’ai Pu and the jazz stylings of his quintet. T’ai Pu is a veteran of the local poetry and music scene and was featured in the 2009 Thin Air Writer’s Festival. Showtime is 8 p.m.

Individual tickets for the Bert Johnson Quintet are $12 in advance, or you can see all four Nu Sounds Series concerts for $40.

Other acts include Reactive on Sunday, January 22, The Tight Fits on Saturday, March 24, and Jeff Presslaff: The Complete Rebirth of the Cool on Friday, May 4.

Tickets are available at JazzWinnipeg.com, by phone at (204) 989-4656, at the Jazz Winnipeg office (007-100 Arthur Street) or The Park Theatre (698 Osborne Street).
