Winnipeg Jets’ forward Eric Fehr and his wife, Rachel, will help raise awareness of donating blood during the busy holiday season today.

The two will take part in a media event at Canadian Blood Services to draw attention to the issue. The Fehrs have long been involved in the cause ever since Eric played for the Brandon Wheat Kings several years ago.

The couple most recently visited local blood recipient Darah Joseph while the 12-year-old was undergoing chemotherapy at Children’s Hospital and have personally donated five pairs of Jets tickets and autographed memorabilia to help inspire more Manitobans to donate blood this holiday season. Anyone who attends a blood donor clinic in Manitoba between Boxing Day and January 7, 2012 can enter to win.

More than 4,200 blood donations are needed in Manitoba to help local patients between now and the New Year. To book an appointment, call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) or visit Blood.ca.
