A 26-year-old man from Schanzenfeld, Manitoba died Friday when the van he was driving lost control and hit a hydro pole.

The accident happened at about 2:20 p.m. on Highway 3 approximately five kilometres north of Boundary Trail Hospital.

The single-vehicle collision happened when the man attempted to pass a pickup truck while travelling southbound on the highway. The vehicle subsequently came to a rest in the east ditch, RCMP said.

Manitoba Hydro cut power to the pole so emergency personnel could tend to the man. No one else was hurt in the collision.

By Friday evening, RCMP were still on the scene and area traffic was being rerouted.
