Unseasonably mild weather is being praised for helping boost attendance at Canad Inns Winter Wonderland this season.
The 12th annual event attracted 50,000 people to Red River Exhibition Park throughout the holidays — an increase of 16 percent from last year.
“Families came out in droves this year to take in the lights, the free weekend sleigh rides and the skating rink, which despite the warm nights delaying the opening, (we) were able to get it up and running,” said Garth Rogerson, CEO of the Red River Exhibition. “Skaters of all ages loved it.”
Gate admission from the event raised $17,000 for the Fire Fighters Burn Fund, the Manitoba Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, the Riverview Health Centre and the Red River Exhibition Foundation.
