The public has voted and the results are in. The Assiniboine Park Zoo’s red panda cub is now officially known as Kiah.
More than 1,000 votes were cast through the zoo’s Facebook page beginning last Friday. An overwhelming 354 votes chose the winning name, which means “from the beautiful place.”
“It’s great to see such a large response from the public and I think Kiah will be very happy with her new name,” said Tim Sinclair-Smith, director of zoological operations at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.
The Assiniboine Park Zoo is home to three red pandas, parents Rufus and Rouge and their newly named cub, Kiah. Visitors can see the red pandas in their habitat at Toucan Ridge during regular zoo hours, daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
