Bisons, Cougars Clash in Weekend Dust-Up

January 10, 2013 9:59 AM | Sports

The Manitoba Bison men’s hockey team is preparing for their first set of home games of the second half of the season this weekend.

The U of M squad — ranked No. 9 in the latest CIS poll — split last week’s series on the road against Saskatchewan. On Saturday and Sunday they will seek to chalk up a pair of wins against the visiting Mount Royal Cougars (4-14-0).

“We respect Mount Royal and how hard they work — they’re a competitive team,” Bisons head coach Mike Sirant said at the team’s weekly news conference. “But the focus is on ourselves and our preparation on how we perform.”

Puck drop is Friday at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at a special time of 2:30 p.m. (Max Bell Arena).

Next door at the Investors Group Athletic Centre, the Bison basketball teams will be facing UBC and Victoria on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Women start at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m.
