RCMP say the crash happened shortly before midnight on January 12 in Pukatawagan. The man was transported to the local nursing station and airlifted to Winnipeg in critical condition for further treatment.

He succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Monday.

According to police, the snowmobile was travelling at excessive speeds when it lost control and collided with the front stairs of a residence.

Speed and a lack of helmet are considered factors in the crash.
