The Manitoba government will fund the construction of a new gymnasium at Laura Secord School.
The aging school, originally built in 1912, will see the addition of approximately 4,000-square-feet of new recreational space to accommodate Wolseley students.
Once complete, the gym will include change rooms, washrooms, storage and a teacher’s office.
“It’s so important that our young people lead healthy, active lives,” said Education and Advanced Learning Minister James Allum. “The funding I’m announcing today will ensure students here have greater opportunities to be involved in sports and other physical activities.”
The old gymnasium will continue to be utilized and discussions are now underway on how to repurpose it.
