A suspect has been charged after a 24-year-old woman was found severely injured and later died after an incident in St. Boniface early Sunday.
Winnipeg police say the victim was in a suite in the first 100 block of Hill Street when she was stabbed with a knife in the upper body at around 5 a.m.
Police found the suspect in the area of Caton Street and Hill Street and attempted to make an arrest. A police officer received non-life threatening lacerations in the process before the suspect was subdued.
Kyle William Hunter, 25, of Winnipeg has been charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, attempting to disarm a peace officer, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and failing to comply with an undertaking.
Hunter remains in custody and autopsy results on the victim are pending.
The woman has been identified as Janelle Jirasek, 24, of Winnipeg.
