Winnipeg’s taxicabs will offer free rides to veterans to travel to Remembrance Day services on Wednesday.
Unicity Taxi and Duffy’s will waive the round-trip fare to any veteran. The trip will be from their homes to the Remembrance Day service venue of their choosing. The venue must be located within Winnipeg and additional stops will not be permitted under this offer.
“As many veterans have aged, their transportation arrangements have become difficult,” said Luc Lewandoski, spokesperson for the Winnipeg Taxi Alliance.
“Several have given up their vehicles, while others have developed health-related mobility issues. Recognizing this, our members felt it would be appropriate to assist those vets who need a ride. Anyone who has served in the forces should be able to attend a Remembrance Day service if they wish to do so.”
