Woman Killed in Crash as Vehicle Takes Off from Police

Winnipeg Police CrestA 36-year-old woman was killed Tuesday after the vehicle she was riding in collided with a pickup truck while being chased by police.

Officers attempted to execute a traffic stop on the vehicle on Boyd Avenue near Arlington Street at around 3:50 p.m. The vehicle didn’t stop and accelerated westbound on Boyd Avenue, where it was hit by a truck travelling northbound on Sinclair Street.

The driver of truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The 20-year-old man driving the first vehicle has since been charged with a number of offences, including driving impaired causing death.

Two teen youth and an adult male, who were passengers in the vehicle, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The driver remains in custody.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has launched an investigation due to the incident.
