Winnipeg Man Facing Over 100 Break-In Charges After Months-Long Window-Smashing Spree

Winnipeg Police CrestA 28-year-old Winnipeg man is in custody after going on a months-long window-smashing and break-in spree in city parking garages.

Between September 11 and November 18, police say Brent Vernon Arksey broke into 12 apartment and condo buildings, where he smashed the windows of 58 vehicles and stole various items from 18 of them.

Most of the incidents took place in south Winnipeg.

Police also say the accused broke into three other parking garages during the same dates, smashing an additional 25 windows.

Arksey faces 58 counts of mischief under $5,000, 25 counts of theft under $5,000, 12 counts of break and enter, and 16 counts of failing to comply with probation.

Arksey has also been charged with driving while disqualified, driving carelessly and three counts of not having a child properly restrained in a vehicle.

He remains in custody.
