Canadian Blood Services is renewing its call for blood donations from the prairie provinces, particularly in Manitoba.

More than 300 appointments are still available before March 10. A spokesperson says recent winter weather in the province has also resulted in missed appointments.

“Many Canadians have stepped up to help patients by donating blood or asking someone to donate on their behalf and more are needed,” says Rick Prinzen, Canadian Blood Services’ chief supply chain officer.

“Spring is a time for renewal and celebrating life. We hope people remember that developing a habit of including blood donation in your routine is one of the most direct ways you can help someone.”

Approximately 10,000 blood donations are needed this week throughout Canada.

Cancer patients, accident victims and people with blood disorders rely on blood transfusions daily.

To book an appointment, visit Blood.ca, download the GiveBlood app or call 1-888-2-DONATE (1 888 236-6283). Walk-in appointments are also available.
