A 17-year-old boy has died after being struck by a vehicle while walking on a western Manitoba highway.

The collision occurred at 11:15 p.m. on July 31 near the Birdtail Sioux First Nation. RCMP say the teen was walking on Highway 83 about half a kilometre south of Provincial Road 355 when he was hit.

The 43-year-old woman driving the vehicle immediately stopped and called 911. The woman and a 23-year-old male passenger were both taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police say a white pickup truck is believed to have stopped at the scene moments after, but took off before police could arrive.
