A special commemoration of the 75th anniversary of 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron will occur prior to tonight’s opening pitch at the Winnipeg Goldeyes game.

Search and rescue technicians will parachute into the field at Shaw Park at approximately 6:50 p.m., while 35 Squadron personnel will take up the fielding positions during the first pitch.

The 435 Squadron Colour Party will parade during the national anthem and a CC-130 Hercules aircraft will complete a fly-past during the opening ceremonies.

Winnipeg is home to 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron, which will celebrate its milestone anniversary this year. The Squadron fills two key roles — those in SAR and air-to-air refuelling for CF18 fighter jets. Also known as the Chinthe Squadron, it was formed in 1944 in India, flying Dakota aircraft in support of the British Fourteenth Army. Following the war, it was located in Edmonton, Alberta from 1946 through 1994, moving to its current home at 17 Wing Winnipeg in 1994.

Game time is 7 p.m. against the visiting St. Paul Saints.
