Three people, including a toddler, were found deceased after a mobile home caught fire in western Manitoba Friday evening.

Emergency crews responded to Provincial Road 265 between 73W and 74W at around 3 p.m. The area is approximately five kilometres west of Plumas, Manitoba.

First responders extinguished the blaze and then entered the home, where the bodies of two adults and a child were located. A 36-year-old man, 28-year-old woman and a two-year-old girl were all residents of the home.

Four other children who also lived in the home were found safe at another location.

Fire Chief Gordon Coutts says the community is small and many residents casually knew the people who died.

“You just knew them to see them and that was it,” he says, adding the tragedy is “tough on everybody.”

“A lot of people are sad over it.”

An autopsy has been scheduled and the investigation into the fire is ongoing.
