Thompson Man Drowns While Swimming in Burntwood River

A man swimming by himself in the Burntwood River in Thompson drowned on Monday.

Witnesses told Manitoba RCMP the man started to drift from shore by the Miles Hart Bridge at around 5 p.m. He was then seen struggling to stay afloat.

Bystanders managed to pull the 48-year-old man from the water and initiate CPR until EMS arrived. He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

RCMP continue to investigate.
