Manitoba RCMP have charged a man after he allegedly brought an air pistol to a gunfight.

Police were called to a disturbance at a home on 4th Avenue in Gimli on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers arrived to find a 23-year-old man in one of the home’s back rooms that needed to be removed. When they entered, there were two males present, one of them pointing a black pistol with the laser pointer activated.

Officers ordered him to drop the weapon, at which point a scuffle broke out between the two suspects over the firearm. An officer who tried to intervene was fired at by one of the suspects with the replica firearm, striking him in the chest.

Police say the officer wasn’t injured and was able to get the suspect under control.

Christian Carter, 23, of Gimli, was arrested and charged with multiple offences.

Police seized a replica gun loaded with .43 calibre ball bearings.

Gimli RCMP continue to investigate.
