WINNIPEG — Skaters at The Forks can now glide the full six kilometres of the Nestaweya River Trail.
Officials announced on Saturday that the barriers had been taken down, opening up the trail from Hugo Docks (on the Assiniboine River) to Churchill Drive (on the Red River).
The first section of the trail opened on December 31, and crews gradually opened sections along the Assiniboine before extending the trail onto the Red over the past two weeks.
If you’re looking for a fun fact about the river trail, here it is: The Forks opened the trail for the first day of the shortened season on this same day in 2024.
Skaters who head down may also notice six new Warming Huts that have recently been unveiled. The huts will be moved down to the Nestaweya River Trail once their artists have completed them.
