WINNIPEG — The Liberal Party of Canada has nominated Ginette Lavack as their candidate in the St. Boniface — St. Vital riding in the next federal election.
Lavack is most recently the former CEO of the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain. Winnipeggers may also recognize her name as being the former executive director of Festival du Voyageur.
“With global and domestic challenges on the rise, I felt I could no longer stay on the sidelines,” Lavack said in a statement on Tuesday.
“I am ready to represent our community, amplify our voices in Ottawa, and be part of the renewal of a Liberal Party that is responsive, innovative and deeply connected to the realities of people’s lives.”
Outgoing Liberal MP Dan Vandal, who has held the Winnipeg riding since 2015, is not seeking reelection this year.
A federal election could be held as early as this spring but must be held no later than the fall.
