A woman has been charged with arson following a house fire Saturday night in Selkirk.
RCMP responded to the blaze on McLean Avenue around 9:15 p.m., where firefighters were already battling a fully engulfed home. The homeowner, a 37-year-old woman, was found outside uninjured but was transported to the hospital as a precaution.
Inside the residence at the time of the fire were two dogs and three cats. Following an initial investigation, RCMP determined the fire had been intentionally set.
Leah Whitney-Brown was later arrested and charged with arson, injuring or endangering animals, and causing unnecessary suffering to animals after being released from the hospital. She has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court this week.
The Office of the Fire Commissioner and Selkirk RCMP continue to investigate.
