Manitoba RCMP have charged two Winnipeg men after a stolen vehicle crashed into one of their cruisers in Portage la Prairie.

Officers were on a routine patrol on February 22 when they spotted a stolen vehicle from Winnipeg with three male occupants around 7:40 p.m.

When police attempted a traffic stop on the Tupper Street Bridge, the vehicle sped up, narrowly missing one cruiser before colliding head-on with another.

Two men — Dana Popko, 36, and Neepin Moose, 30 — were arrested and face multiple charges, including possession of stolen property, weapon-related offences, and drug trafficking. Moose was also wanted on outstanding warrants. A third suspect was released without charges.

One officer and two suspects sustained minor injuries.

Popko and Moose were remanded into custody and appeared in court this week.
