In response to soaring food bank demand, Manitoba Egg Farmers is doubling its regular donation of fresh eggs to Harvest Manitoba, supplying nearly 45,000 eggs each month to help feed approximately 100,000 Manitobans.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, food bank usage in Manitoba has risen by 150 percent, with Harvest now supporting over 20,000 households monthly. Manitoba Egg Farmers will now donate 3,600 dozen eggs every month — double its previous contribution.
“This donation comes at a time when families need it most,” said Vince Barletta, president and CEO at Harvest Manitoba.
“Eggs are one of our most requested items. They’re nutritious, versatile and bring joy to our clients. Thanks to Manitoba Egg Farmers, more families will find this welcome surprise in their hampers each month.”
MEF began regular donations in 2020 and strengthened its partnership in 2024 through a purchasing agreement with Burnbrae Farms to ensure a steady, affordable supply. Eggs are now distributed weekly to Harvest’s network, including more than 80 food banks in Winnipeg and dozens of others across the province.
