Winnipeg police have arrested a 44-year-old man accused of a series of thefts and robberies at retail stores across the city dating back to March.

Investigators allege Michael Jeffery Britton is linked to incidents on Henderson Highway, Reenders Drive and Regent Avenue where merchandise worth about $3,000 was stolen. In two cases, employees were allegedly assaulted when they tried to stop him.

Britton was arrested September 13 after officers spotted him on a bicycle in the 800 block of Main Street. He attempted to flee but was caught, and police recovered $700 in stolen goods.

He faces 36 charges, including robbery, theft under $5,000 and breaches of probation and release orders. Four outstanding warrants with 41 additional charges were also executed. Britton remains in custody.
