Winnipeg police say an elderly couple was hospitalized after a violent assault Saturday evening in the 300 block of Elgin Avenue.
At around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a man running into traffic and then attacking an 80-year-old woman and an 85-year-old man walking nearby. Police allege the suspect shoved the woman to the ground before repeatedly punching and stomping both victims. The man was knocked down after trying to intervene.
Both victims were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. One remains in unstable condition.
Police say the suspect fled into a nearby home but was subdued with multiple Taser deployments after resisting arrest.
Nathan Droy Paul, 28, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, resisting a peace officer, and breaching parole. He remains in custody.
