Winnipeg police have charged a man and a woman after seizing large quantities of fentanyl moulded to look like candy.
Officers arrested the pair on Wednesday in the West Broadway area, finding 38 grams of fentanyl on the man, valued at about $15,000. A search of an apartment suite on Furby Street uncovered another 134 grams of fentanyl worth $53,600, plus five grams of unprocessed fentanyl — enough to produce up to 5,000 street-level doses. Police also seized a Taser, pepper spray, moulds used to shape the drugs, cash, scales, and packaging materials.
The accused, a 39-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, face multiple drug trafficking and weapons-related charges. They were released on undertakings.
Police warn the public not to touch suspicious items resembling drug moulds and to report them immediately. Officials also urge people who use drugs to never use alone and to carry naloxone.
