Falcon Lake RCMP handed out two impaired driving-related suspensions just minutes apart on Wednesday evening along Highway 1 in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
At around 7:15 p.m., officers conducting traffic enforcement received an alert from their automatic licence plate reader about a vehicle with an inactive driver’s licence. The 61-year-old driver from Winnipeg was not the vehicle’s owner but provided a roadside breath sample that registered a “warn.” He was issued a 72-hour immediate roadside prohibition.
While officers were dealing with that vehicle, a passerby reported another car that had pulled over near the police cruiser’s flashing lights. When officers located and stopped the vehicle, they found three intoxicated passengers and a 57-year-old driver from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, who refused to provide a breath sample. He was issued a 90-day roadside suspension.
