Winnipeg police have arrested a 29-year-old man after a violent assault and fire at a business on Ferry Road Sunday afternoon.
Police say at around 2 p.m., the suspect used a metal bar to smash windows on four vehicles before striking a 36-year-old man in the head, knocking him unconscious. The victim was taken to hospital and later upgraded to stable condition.
The suspect then broke into a nearby business, barricaded himself inside a garage, and set a fire that caused extensive damage. Officers extinguished the flames and arrested the man.
Arley Alvin Harper, who was treated for smoke inhalation, has been charged with aggravated assault, arson, break and enter, and mischief. He remains in custody.
