Winnipeg police have arrested two girls, aged 12 and 14, in connection with a violent robbery that left a woman in her 60s hospitalized after being stabbed in a parking lot late last month.
The incident occurred on November 26 in the 2300 block of McGillivray Boulevard, where the victim was approached by two young females demanding her purse. When she hesitated, police say she was stabbed before the suspects fled with her belongings. Bystanders rushed to help, and the woman was taken to hospital in unstable condition before later being upgraded to stable.
Police continued the investigation and received a report on December 4 from another teenage girl who said she had been threatened at knifepoint by the same suspects and forced into a stolen vehicle. She was driven to Brandon and released unharmed.
Police say the two suspects continued to Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, where they were arrested on December 5 with assistance from Virden RCMP.
A 14-year-old girl is charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, forcible confinement, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and multiple counts of failing to comply with court orders. She remains in custody.
A 12-year-old girl is charged with robbery and possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000. She has been released on an undertaking.
