Winnipeg police have laid additional charges against 35-year-old Jesse Wheatland as part of an ongoing investigation into a string of arsons across the city.
Officers re-arrested Wheatland on December 9 at Milner Ridge Correctional Centre after linking him to three more suspicious fires:
- August 19 – 100 block of Disraeli Freeway
- November 2 – 900 block of Corydon Avenue
- November 3 – 1000 block of Nairn Avenue
Search warrants executed at a residence on St. Mary’s Road and a storage unit on Higgins Avenue resulted in the seizure of further evidence.
Wheatland is now charged with three new counts of arson, two counts of possessing incendiary material, and two counts of intimidation. He remains in custody.
These charges come in addition to the extensive list he already faced following his November 18 arrest, when police connected him to 22 arsons, break-ins, and damage-related offences between June and November. Previous charges included arson with disregard for human life, 13 counts of arson causing property damage, multiple break-and-enter offences, and mischief.
