Winnipeg police arrested a 28-year-old man after a series of porch package thefts in the city’s North End on Tuesday.
According to police, officers observed a man stealing a package from the front porch of a residence in the 800 block of Atlantic Avenue shortly after 10 p.m.
Investigators later determined the suspect had attended three separate residences between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., including one in the 700 block of Cathedral Avenue and two in the 800 block of Atlantic Avenue, where three packages were stolen.
A homeowner who witnessed one of the thefts contacted police and provided information that helped officers locate the suspect at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Arlington Street, where he was arrested without incident.
The stolen packages were recovered and returned to their owners.
Skyler Lane Richard Bakken, 28, is charged with theft under $5,000 and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for possession of a scheduled substance.
Bakken was detained in custody.
