Two people were arrested after a police pursuit and collision involving an unmarked RCMP cruiser in Portage la Prairie on Tuesday.

RCMP say a Chevrolet Equinox failed to stop for a traffic violation at around 6:15 p.m. and was later seen driving erratically on 3rd Street NE before striking an unmarked police cruiser while travelling the wrong way through a roundabout near the former Manitoba Developmental Centre.

The vehicle later ran a red light at Saskatchewan Avenue and crashed into a parked truck on 3rd Street SE. No one was inside the truck. The RCMP officer was not seriously injured, and all damaged vehicles were drivable.

Two suspects were arrested and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both from Dakota Tipi First Nation, face multiple charges, including assault on a police officer with a weapon causing bodily harm, flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving, uttering threats, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
