Portage la Prairie RCMP are investigating after multiple reports of offensive posters containing hate symbols and racist messaging in the community.
Police say the first call came just after 8:05 a.m. on Monday, after posters were discovered on storefront windows. Additional reports indicate the posters were placed overnight on various buildings and parked vehicles along Saskatchewan Avenue.
RCMP say the posters include a partial image of a swastika and references to white nationalism and white power.
“Manitoba RCMP take all instances of suspected hate-motivated crimes seriously and are investigating to identify a suspect,” police said in a release. “Under the Criminal Code, individuals found guilty of public incitement of hatred and/or wilful incitement of hatred can face a sentence of up to two years in prison.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Portage la Prairie RCMP at (204) 857-4445 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
