The humanitarian search at Winnipeg’s Prairie Green Landfill has been officially decommissioned following the successful recovery of the remains of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran.
The search of the privately owned landfill began December 2, 2024, and officially concluded July 9, 2025. Both women were members of Long Plain First Nation. Their remains were identified during the targeted search operation.
“The search was completed and decommissioned in a safe and fiscally responsible manner, with a final cost of $18.4 million, a fraction of previous estimates that ran as high as $184 million,” the province said on Thursday.
Following the conclusion of the Prairie Green search, specialized equipment and personnel were transitioned to the City of Winnipeg’s Brady Road Landfill, where work is continuing.
