Four females have been charged following a violent commercial robbery at a south Winnipeg convenience store early Saturday.
Shortly before 4:30 a.m., Winnipeg police say four suspects arrived at the store in the 400 block of St. Anne’s Road in an intoxicated state. When the lone clerk locked the doors to prevent them from entering, the group grabbed rocks and began smashing a 2008 Honda CR-V parked in front of the store, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage.
Two of the suspects then turned on the store itself, smashing the front windows and forcing their way inside, where they damaged property before all four fled on foot with stolen goods. Damage to the store is also estimated at over $5,000. The clerk wasn’t injured.
Officers located all four suspects nearby and took them into custody without incident. One suspect was transported to hospital in stable condition after sustaining an injury from kicking the storefront glass.
Shikyhna Koostachin, 21, faces the most serious charges, including break, enter and commit robbery, two counts of mischief over $5,000, possession of a weapon, and multiple counts of failing to comply. She was detained in custody.
Three other suspects — aged 14, 17, and 20 — each face multiple charges. All three were released on undertakings to appear in court at a later date.
