RCMP have laid charges against two people following an assault at a house party in Russell that left an officer punched in the head.

Officers responded to a report of an assault at a residence on Augusta Street East at approximately 3:30 a.m. on June 17. Investigators learned a 20-year-old woman attending a party at a nearby home had been repeatedly punched and kicked by another woman. Paramedics treated her for her injuries.

RCMP attended the home where the party was still underway and were met by a 29-year-old man known to police. The man initially tried to shake an officer’s hand before punching the officer in the side of the head. The officer took him to the ground and arrested him.

Officers then located and arrested the woman suspected in the initial assault.

Maverick Oudie, 29, of Dauphin, is charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting a peace officer.

Tanis Cooke, 25, of Waywayseecappo First Nation, is charged with assault.

Both were released and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
