A 37-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital in stable condition after being struck by a Winnipeg police cruiser downtown Friday night.
Just before 9 p.m., officers were responding to a call for service, travelling westbound on Portage Avenue at Garry Street. The officers entered the intersection on a green light when their cruiser collided with a cyclist travelling northbound on Garry Street, knocking the woman to the ground.
Officers immediately stopped and provided emergency medical care to the cyclist before she was transported to hospital.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba was notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
